“For hundreds of thousands of years, every object in the world that didn’t occur in nature was made by hand,” writes Melanie Falick in the beautiful book Making a Life: Working by Hand and Discovering the Life You Are Meant to Live. Our hands touched nature and the handmade everyday. But today, for many of us, our hands are most often touching keyboards and screens. It seems our hands are “out of touch” with something that has always been essential for our happiness and well-being.

This mini retreat will explore a spirituality of making things by hand. Through guided meditation, “hands on” making and reflection, and sharing with others, we will consider how engaging our hands can be a vital practice for healing and joy.

During the retreat you will spend some time with a practice of your own choosing. You can bring something you want to work on or choose from a list of suggestions that you will receive before the start of the retreat. No art or craft experience needed!
